Mei Homma

Artist / Co-founder of Back and Forth Collective

Born 1985 in Tokyo, based in Bandung (Indonesia) and Tokyo. Graduated with an MA Fine Art from Chelsea College of Arts in 2011, a BA Art Theory from Joshibi University of Art and Design in 2009.

With Homma's interest on historical relationships between Indonesia and Japan from the early modern period to the present times, she uses not only documents and archival materials but also novels and everyday materials to make videos and installations. She also travels around the places related to the researches for filming. Her interdisciplinary approaches try to explore social and political issues would happen in any period and multilateral relationships. Recently, she works on making essay films to tell hidden stories of women as well.
